THANKSGIVING DAY 2018

Thanksgiving in the United States is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. In Canada Thanksgiving is celebrated the second Monday in October. Families prepare meal similar to the meal prepared by the Pilgrims and Wampanoag 400 years ago. It is time for counting the blessings we have received during the year and for spending time with family and friends.

SAINT VALENTINE´S DAY

Valentine’s Day is a time when people show feelings of love, affection and friendship. It is celebrated in many ways worldwide and falls on February 14 each year.

Many Canadians take the time to observe Groundhog Day on February 2 . Groundhog Day in Canada focuses on the concept of a groundhog coming out of its home in mid-winter to “predict” if spring is on its way in the northern hemisphere.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!

  • Primary Year 2: collage made with pictures with our Christmas cards on our Christmas tree and the game we played in class to practise clothes: Santa Claus is cold!

  • Children from Infants 5 sang the song "Oh Christmas Tree" and we made a Christmas card to take home.

  • Children from Infants 4 sang this song today at school: I'M A LITTLE SNOWMAN. We also made a special snowman to put on our Christmas tree at home: OLAF from Frozen!

APRIL´S FOOL DAY

Earlier, New Year used to be celebrated on April 1st. Then a new calendar was adopted where New Year was celebrated on January. In the beginning, people did not accept 1st January as the New Year and continued to celebrate New Year on 1st April. They used to exchange gifts on New Year, so some people started to play a prank by giving mock gifts to people still celebrating New Year on 1st April. People who accepted these gifts were called April Fools. The idea of April Fools soon spread throughout the world. People then started pulling each other's legs by playing stupid pranks.

SAINT PATRICK´S DAY

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day falls on 17 March, which is the anniversary of his death in the fifth century.

A leprechaun is a type of fairy in Irish folklore usually taking the form of an old man, clad in a red or green coat, who enjoys partaking in mischief. The Leprechauns spend all their time busily making shoes, and store away all their coins in a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

In Ireland on St. Patrick´s Day, people traditionally wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jackets or caps. Children wear orange, green and white badges, and women and girls wear ribbons in their hair.
